This lot is an antique nib cleaner for a fountain pen. It was made by Marian Edith Mace who lived between 1850 and 1937. In all likelihood, she made it when she was a child or a teen so we might assume it dates back to the 1860s-70s. This is a pen nib cleaner/wipe and has been hand stitched and drawn The figure appears to be a Napoleon-like character, judging from his hat (which has ink marks on it).
I think this may have lived in a pencil case or on a desk. He measures approximately 21 cm long. His face appears to be made from some kind of suede-like material and the whites of his eyes have been painted in. He really is very cute and I would say he's utterly unique.
